Call To Action
Jamerson/Wigley Road Widening Project |
CALL TO ACTION - Jamerson /Wigley Road Project
Jamerson /Wigley Roads Widening Project
Action Deadline: March 27, 2008
Dan Thornton, owner of Free-Flite Bicycles attended the Jamerson
Road/Wigley Road widening presentation last night (3/13), and was
shocked to learn there are NO bike lanes in the plan. We are talking
about a huge opportunity lost if we don't act now. Dan spoke at length
with David Montanye, the Director of the Cobb County DOT about the
lack of bicycles as a transportation alternative. David said without
public comment requesting cycling access on this project there will be
none.
Jamerson Road will be widened from a 2-lane to a 4-lane divided road
from Lee Waters Road to Canton Road. Jamerson Road/Wigley Road will be
widened from 2 lanes to 3-lanes from Sandy Plains Road To Lee Waters
Road. This stretch of road is one of the northern most roads that run
east to west in NE Cobb County and connects Canton Road to Sandy
Plains. It will be a major widening project and to leave out bicycle
lanes would be a terrible thing for cyclists.
We're asking Cobb County residents to take 5 minutes out of your busy
day and write a simple email.
Pass this on to any other cyclists that live (or ride) in Cobb County
and ask them to do the same.
Public comments are only open until March 27th so do it today!

Comments: My support of this project is conditional due to the fact
that there are no accommodations for bicycles included. The Jamerson
Road/Wigley Road is a critical connector from east to west in the
northern most part of Cobb County. To miss the opportunity to connect
Canton Road to Sandy Plains Road with safe bicycle lanes is unacc
